Take a Stand for Every Marylander This Holiday Season

As you enjoy time with friends and family between now and the end of the year, you may be considering a donation to your favorite nonprofit. If you usually give to nonprofits that provide essential services directly to those in need, a donation to a research and advocacy organization like the Maryland Center on Economic Policy is a great way to complement that generosity. Together, we can work to advance state policies that help Maryland families make ends meet, reducing the need for thinly stretched nonprofit resources to fill in the gaps.

With the help of our supporters, MDCEP has made significant progress for every Marylander over the last six years. As an independent, nonpartisan nonprofit, we rely on funding from foundations, partner organizations, and generous individuals to keep doing this important work.

The Cause

Our donors help us advance policies that support struggling low- and moderate-income families and grow our economy. For Maryland to be a truly prosperous state, all Marylanders must have the ability to achieve their full potential in an economy that offers a widely shared, rising standard of living. Generous supporters like you help make this possible by allowing us to respond to emerging issues as they happen, to dig deeper, and to share what we find more widely.

MDCEP plays a critical role in pushing back against well-funded special interest groups, backed by profitable corporations and ultra-wealthy individuals, who care more about short-term profits than the long-term economic health of our state. We engage in grassroots lobbying, to the extent legally allowed under our 501(c)(3) status, to ensure that our policymakers aren’t swayed by those who don’t have Marylanders’ best interests in mind. Donations from individuals are vital to this work, since many foundation grants can’t be used for lobbying activities.

As a part of the State Priorities Partnership, MDCEP works with similar organizations across the country to advance innovative state policies in 41 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Discord in the federal government over the last few years has reminded us just how important state and local policies are. By donating to MDCEP, you are not only supporting responsible public policy in Maryland, but in all corners of the United States as well.

Our Infrastructure

MDCEP’s staff are the heart of the organization, and we are committed to adhering to the workforce policies that we advocate for. A portion of the donations we receive goes toward salaries and benefits that help MDCEP attract and retain highly experienced, talented, and passionate staffers.

Each member of our lean and effective team wears many hats, as researchers, organizers, communications gurus, graphic designers, event planners, and more. We generate original policy research and analysis and use data-driven messaging and strategic communications tactics to build support for policies that remove barriers to success and help give every Marylander the opportunity to live to their full potential.

How to donate:

  • Make a donation on our website. Help sustain our work by choosing a monthly donation.
  • Give a gift from your donor-advised fund.
  • State employees and retirees can support MDCEP through the Maryland Charity Campaign.

Other way to make an impact:

  • Follow us on Facebook and Twitter. As your birthday approaches, consider a Facebook fundraiser to support MDCEP.
  • Sign up for our email list to receive news and action alerts.
  • Talk with your friends and family over the holidays about the important work we do to raise the standard of living for every Marylander.

We hope to one day put ourselves out of business by building an economy that works for everyone and securing a strong social safety net. Help us reach that goal by donating today.
