Nonprofit leaders call for action in plentiful budget year – The Daily Record

ANNAPOLIS — A umbrella group that represents nonprofit organizations in Maryland urged members to unite in an effort to protect against state budget cuts and possibly seek additional taxes for “unmet needs.” The call by Maryland Nonprofits comes days before the beginning of the 2016 General Assembly session, which is expected to include discussions about possible tax cuts and other budget reductions.

[Governor Larry] Hogan last week laid out the broad strokes of a $17.1 billion budget proposal – more than the current year but more than $200 million less than recommended by the legislature.

“So there will be cuts in something, we just don’t know what yet,” said Benjamin Orr, executive director of the Maryland Center on Economic Policy, a progressive leaning organization.
