MDCEP Becomes State Partner in National KIDS COUNT Network

The Maryland Center on Economic Policy (MDCEP), a nonprofit organization that works to build broadly shared prosperity through research-backed policy, is now the Maryland partner in the national KIDS COUNT® network, a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation that provides high-quality data about the wellbeing of children, youth, and their families for the purpose of effecting positive changes in policies, priorities, and programs.

KIDS COUNT provides high-quality data and trend analysis through its KIDS COUNT Data Center, including publication of the KIDS COUNT data book. As a new KIDS COUNT partner organization, MDCEP is ready to continue making a difference for Maryland’s children by working to track data and serving as a resource as experts on the indicators of child wellbeing.

“We at MDCEP know the power of data. It can tell the story of what Maryland children and their families are experiencing, and help inform good policy-making that truly addresses what families and communities need,” said MDCEP President and CEO Benjamin Orr. “We are honored and excited to carry on the KIDS COUNT work in Maryland and to be part of this powerful national network.”

Advocates for Children and Youth was Maryland’s partner for decades in the national network, during which KIDS COUNT flourished and became a leading voice on all issues related to child and family well-being. ACY announced at the end of 2021 that it was ceasing operations. Nonso Umunna, who most recently led the KIDS COUNT project for ACY is now continuing in that role at MDCEP.
