Keys to improving Eastern Shore listed in new report – Delmarva Now

A new report that takes a look at challenges facing Maryland’s Eastern Shore provides solutions to local leaders on ways to improve the economy, access to health care, education and climate change.

The report, “Sustaining Strong Communities on Maryland’s Eastern Shore,” was written by the Maryland Center on Economic Policy, a group with “a statewide lens” that looks at how various regions are doing, said Benjamin Orr, the executive director.

The group also has done a study of the Washington area in Maryland, he said.

Maryland is the wealthiest state in the U.S., “but that doesn’t mean everyone’s doing well,” Orr said.

The Eastern Shore study shows an older population, with less education, fewer employment opportunities, limited access to health care and a need for better education funding, Orr said.
