D.C. area’s economy is bigger than Thailand and Austria

“These are all signs that the region’s economy is strong. But, of course, not all of its residents are economically secure. A report released Monday by The Commonwealth Institute, the Maryland Center on Economic Policy and the D.C. Fiscal Policy Institute, a trio of progressive nonprofits, finds that the income inequality is growing in the National Capital Area, that unemployment rates for certain groups remains very high, that black and young workers were hit particularly hard by the recession, and that the ‘high cost of living in the region is pushing many families to spend more than they can afford on housing.'”
